Oboz Teton Nubuck Review

Oboz Teton Review

Out of the box the Oboz Teton Nubuck is an impressive shoe. It looks tough enough to climb a Granite Peak talus field, yet comfortable and light enough to be worn around town.

Oboz uses a ridged 3-D injected molded heel clip. This results in a shoe that feels like it is wrapping your heel perfectly. After removing the insole, I realized I don’t need to put my Superfeet insoles in these shoes. Oboz has seen fit to put a high quality insole in all models of their shoes.

I also like that they chose to use a full grain nubuck upper. It offers much more durability and a much more substantial feel on your foot. Even after taking a few pointy rocks to side of the foot I never got sore.

Oboz utilized a "board last" for the Teton. Board lasts offer more support and a stiffer sole. That is important if you are planning on taking these on rugged talus slopes.

After taking them out on the trail I have found that the full rubber toe rand is very substantial and non restrictive to the toe box. The Tri-density EVA midsole cushions and supports the foot. The rebound of the shoe isn’t enough to dampen the ability of this to edge along rocks, and smear in cracks. The rubber Oboz has used feels solid and stiff, yet grippy enough to stick to slippery lichen covered granite.

We spent considerable time looking for the perfect approach shoe. The Teton Nubuck from Oboz is the best we have found.

That isn't surprising given that Oboz was founded by John Connelly. John is a veteran of the footwear industry, having spent over 30 years in the sporting goods and footwear industry, with stints at well known companies like Montrail, Tecnica, Vasque, and Five Ten.

If you are looking for a very capable approach shoe, or a durable yet lightweight hiking shoe, take a serious look at the Oboz Teton Nubuck.
