Millet Replikan Climbing Shoe

Millet Replikan Review

Millet is a new brand to the USA but has been around in Europe since 1950. Millet started in Chamonix, France. This company produces a variety of products for climbers including packs, boots, rock shoes, ropes, and clothing.

I have been testing the Replikan shoes for the past few weeks now and have fallen in love with the design of this shoe. By far the most unique and my favorite feature is the dual lock system. This system provides lacing in the toe and two velcro straps. One of the velcro straps will adjust the tightness of the lacing. This allows a comfortable and precise fit very quickly. The inside is a soft wicking lining for comfort and moisture management. Millet has truly thought every feature through, and provides a unique feature set that sets their footwear apart from everything else on the market.

Another unique feature is Millets 4PointGrip. This is basically four very dense very sticky dots on the heel. I found this made a huge difference on difficult bouldering problems requiring more technical moves. The mesh padded tongue provides comfort, breathability, and moisture management. Another feature I can't say enough good things about is the padded heel. After an ankle injury last year this feature has taken the pain out of big drops. and provides comfort on the rock.

The rubber is quite grippy yet appears to be long lasting (mine show little wear after daily use) I would compare the rubber to the durability of onyx with a vibram like grip. There is also a sizable patch of ruber on the top of the toe that is great for technical footwork. My only design complaint (although very minor) is the placement of the pull tabs at the heel, their positioning is slightly awkward.

This shoe is not for beginners or someone who wants a all around shoe. This is a very aggressive shoe that is perfect for difficult, overhanging bouldering problems and sport routes. If you are an experienced climber who needs the best look no further.

With many climbing shoes on the market I think it is hard to beat the Millet Replikan for performance, comfort, and great looks all at a very competitive price.
