The Sierra Madres system of mountains include two major mountain ranges, and one smaller mountain range.
The Sierra Madre Occidental runs parallel to Mexico's Pacific Ocean coastline, with several peaks exceeding (3,034 meters (10,000 feet). The highest peak is probably Cerro Mohinora at 3,250 meters (10,662 feet)
The Sierra Madre Oriental runs parallel to its Gulf of Mexico coastline, with a few mountains reaching 3,034 meters (10,000 feet).
The Sierra Madre del Sur range is located in the southern Mexican states of Guerrero and Oaxaca.
In the United States the mountain range is the Sierra Madre Mountains. The highest peak in the Sierra Madre Mountains is Peak Mountain at 1,781 meters (5,843 feet).
To the Southeast the range merges with the San Rafael Mountains in a complex topography of unnamed ranges, the highest point of which is Big Pine Mountain at 2,079 meters (6,820 feet).
