Pyrenees

Europe > Pyrenees

highest point: 3,404
location: Europe
coordinates: 42° 40′ 0″ N, 1° 0′ 0″ E

The Pyrenees mountains form the natural border between France and Spain and extend for about 434 kilometers (270 miles) from the Bay of Biscay to the Mediterranean Sea. The highest point is Pico de Aneto at 3,404 meter (11,168 feet).

The Pyrenees offer an abundance of great climbing and the area has proved an important venue for climbing competitions over the years. Summits range from those accessible with just basic climbing skills through to some highly technical climbs.

The valleys of Anso, Hecho and Canfranc have many dramatic peaks to climb, most of them in excess of 3000 meters (9,842 feet).

In the Tena valley Sallent de Gallego is the Cirque of Piedrefita. There are many peaks to ascend here. The tallest ones are El Balaitus, Frondella and La Gran Facha.

Another good climbing location is the Cirque of Panticosa. It’s just outside the village of Panticosa. There are many peaks here to explore. The most important peaks are El Infierno (hell's peaks), Tendenera, Sabacos, Piriecho, Zarre, Garmonegro and Aguales.
