Kilimanjaro is not a mountain range. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in the world that is not part of a mountain range but it does have three volcanic cones. The three summits of Mount Kilimanjaro, Shira, Kibo and Mawenzi are all of very recent origin. Shira and Mawenzi both have suffered considerable erosion and only jagged peaks remain.
