The Andes is South America's main mountain system and is the highest mountain range outside Asia.. At over 6,400 Kilometers (4,000 miles) it is the longest continuous mountain chain on earth. The highest peak, Aconcagua, rises to 6,962 meters (22,841 feet) above sea level.
