Great buy
Sean at Altrec on 08/16/2010 Rated: This helmet ended up being much heavier duty than I was expecting it to be. Extremely well made. My only criticism would be that it sits higher on my head than I expected. But it's about safety not style so I was soon over it. Very comfortable.
FOUND IT
Vern Nelson Jr. at Backcountry.com on 07/23/2010 Rated: I found one climbing about a year ago. It seems to stand up to A LOT of abuse. The down side is that they are heavy, I like my Meteor III WAY MORE. But for guiding this helmet is nice because its easy to adjust for different head shapes. Overall i recommend this helmet but if you can afford it go for the Meteor III.
Multi Use
txclimber at Mountain Gear on 06/06/2010 Rated: Not the lightest, but definitely the toughest. Don't trust your melon to a flimsy helmet just to save a few grams. This thing is a beast. No styrofoam here. Hardhat style construction is bomber. I use mine for climbing, snowboarding, paddling, caving, and any other time I might bang my head or have something fall on me. Can your helmet do that?
Like an Orange on a Toothpick...
Tim Berrett at Backcountry.com on 06/04/2010 Rated: I love my white Ecrin Roc. It has saved my brain many times spelunking, it has journeyed with me to the top of many peaks and has given me confidence and peace of mind on my canyoneering adventures.
The Ecrin sits a bit higher than my BD Half-dome so it makes my head look bigger than it already is, but the Ecrin truly feels bomber in comparison. Despite the size and profile, my BD Spot headlamp and petzl DUO headlamp still fit nicely on the Ecrin. Also, all the hoods on any of my jackets: TNF, Arcteryx etc. fit over the Ecrin. It is a little heavier than the Half-dome, but has better ventilation than the Half-dome.
Classic bomber helmet. Highly recommended!
Perfect, but...
Daniel Philp at Backcountry.com on 05/22/2010 Rated: It's great for my large dome, even with a hat on, classic looking, heavy duty, but...
It's heavier, more expensive, and not as stylin' as the BD Half-Dome, but...
I prefer classic and the thing feels bomb-proof.
The West is the Best!
Seattle Stick at Mountain Gear on 05/05/2010 Rated: Still the best helmet out there, use this one for every thing, winter assents, or summer summits. Buy the cool white and add a few stickers to make it yours.
Easily Meets Durable Expectation
Charles H Boykins at Rock/Creek Outfitters on 05/05/2010 Rated: I use this product with a Medical Scooter. I am pleased with the provided protection.
I do wish there was better security for the ears.
ecrin rocks!
Ryan Ivy at Backcountry.com on 03/10/2010 Rated: i got two of these bad boys. they're virtually indestructible. i also have two of the black diamond half domes...and the difference is there is a lot more flex to the bd's and the petzl feels a lot firmer. and the ecrin roc fits a lot more comfortable on the noggin' and the chin strap clip is closer on one side vs. the in the middle under your chin like the bd half dome. only beef with the ecrin roc is that it sits fairly high on the forehead and you can't adjust how deep you can set it. it can double as a seat on the rocks. had a much much older ecrin roc and loved it so much i picked up a second. i got the white and the red. love em. this helmet will last you all your climbing years.
The Best for Your Head
James Bristol at Backcountry.com on 02/05/2010 Rated: The perfect helmet for every season and in any activity where you need head protection--whether ice climbing, spelunking, climbing at White Rock, or crazy mtn biking. This is the only helmet you'll need. The adjustments are the best and easy to maneuver, and the helmet holds essentially every headlamp on the market. While it can look dorkie on your head, in an accident or under a falling rock, you're safe. An excellent purchase!
No Brainer
knanier at Backcountry.com on 12/01/2009 Rated: It fits securely and adjusts well. Beanie, hood, balding, etc. Yes, its slightly heavier and taller, but can't say enough for the multiple (smaller) impact durability. Other helmets with foam don't last as long, are more prone to weakening, etc. Headlight also fits on super securely which is nice for those early mornings and late nights. Mountain staple!
Keeping your brain cells safe
Mark Epstein at Backcountry.com on 12/01/2009 Rated: This thing is great. snug fit with beanies, and vents fairly well. I have taken multiple swinging head to rock collisions in this and it barley has a scratch. Super adjustable and full vision with headlamp attached (which goes on super easy). Protect your educational investment in your brain and use this bucket.
All day comfort and safety
High adventure scouter at Campsaver.com on 10/12/2009 Rated: I bought the helmets for a high adventure boy scout troop. The adults had them on for 6-8 hours and I had no complaints. The adjusting wheel allowed scouts and adults to get a good safe fit. The chin strap is easily adjusted without any pinching. Great equipment for the price.
Love this Helmet
Monkey Face at Mountain Gear on 09/09/2009 Rated: This helmet is so comfortable that I foget that I'm even wearing it. It is adjustable so that I can wear a hat under it in the winter. the clips on the front keep the headlamp in place.
One size doesn't fit all
lizardsfeet at REI on 06/06/2009 Rated: I am looking for a suspension helmet (compared to the bicycle-style helmets that are now popular). The Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet was type that I was looking for. The problem was that the chin strap was much too long, and there was no way to make them shorter (believe me, I took it to the REI store to get it adjusted, but they couldn't do it). Imagine, the plastic pieces that should be near the ear (to create a triangle of webbing)were actually right under my chin! My face is too short and head too small. I understand that they used to make two sizes of the Petzl roc. Now they only make one size (21-25 inches in circumference). I would buy this helmet if only it came in my size....
Awesome helmet
Trailhound at Mountain Gear on 06/06/2009 Rated: This is a great helmet. With a 7 3/4" head I am always leery of "one size fits all" helmets, but this one is easily adjusted for perfect fit. No issues in keeping cool on warm days or fitting a beanie under it on cold days. Extremely durable and offers excellent protection. I had the misfortune of getting caught in an avalanche once and this helmet provided amazing protection against injury.
