Black Diamond Cobra/Viper Android Leash Review

Black Diamond Viper Android Leash

Black Diamond Viper Android Leash

Price: $26.97 - $44.95 at 4 stores.
Average Rating: 4 out of 5

Backcountry.com

The Black Diamond Viper Android Leash attaches directly to the shaft of Viper ice tools to allow a secure attachment for steep ice and a quick release when you need to place a screw. The Viper Android Leash bolts to the middle of your tool to provide better support than a head-mounted leash. This Black Diamond leash also allows you to switch between leashless and leashed climbing quickly on difficult mixed terrain.

Bottom Line:Climb securely and place pro easily with help from the Black Diamond Viper Android Ice Axe Leash.

Great Leashes

Bought these for my Vipers - although I haven't really used them all that much, they don't take up much room in the pack so I don't mind taking them for a walk. Seriously though, these leashes are the standard by which all other leashes are judged - mad comfortable, highly adjustable, and the quick release works flawlessly - even with bulky gloves.

Viper Android Leash not Compatible with New Viper Model

The viper android leash sold on Backcountry is not compatible with the new Viper. The worst part is that Backcountry does not inform you of this and then you need to pay for shipping to return them. If you have a new Viper, you must buy the Cobra/Viper Android leash with one stud.

almost like climbing leashless

i started climbing waterfalls leashless - much better for matching and techy moves on hard ice and mixed routes. however, when i started doing alpine routes, a dropped tool became a serious risk. i hated the idea of having long strips of webbing tied around my wrist when i climbed, but these short, easily-removed androids are barely noticeably and can hardly be called an obstruction. its like climbing leashless with the security of leashes. another well-designed system by BD.
