Black Diamond Momentum Package Review

return to » mountain climbing gear

SummitHut.com

The Momentum AL harness from Black Diamond is a great balance of value, performance, and full adjustability. This all season harness will has adjustable leg loops to accommodate additional layers on the cooler climbs. These adjustable loops can also be used to adjust on the climb for those times when you need the harness a little tighter or a little more slack to maneuver. If you only want to have one harness that will accommodate all the adventures that you are planning then this is the harness for you. One harness for those climbs on Windy Point on Mt. Lemmon or ice climbing, you can't beat that.

Features:

  • **Always read and understand the warnings and instructions that accompany your gear.**
  • 4 pressure molded gear loops to allow for many gear attachment options
  • Adjustable leg loops with traditional buckles to allow for added bulk from extra layers during cold climbs or to adjust the fit on the fly
  • Bullhorn shaped waistbelt with traditional buckle that will provide greater comfort during climbs
  • Full-strength haul loop
  • Weight: 14 oz (estimated)

Mountain Gear

Once you found a good route, keep on moving in Black Diamond's Momentum AL harness. Your speed won't be hindered by any discomfort thanks to the bullhorn-shaped waistbelt with a traditional buckle and you'll be able to keep gear within easy reach on the 4 Pressure Molded gear loops.

Features:

  • Clip extra gear unto the 4 Pressure Molded gear loops
  • Clip your approach shoes or trail ropes onto the full-strength haul loop
  • Even though it sports a traditional buckle, the harness isn't old school thanks to Black Diamond's signature bullhorn-shaped, padded waistbelt
  • Your legs will be comfortable in the padded, adjustable leg loops with traditional buckles

Campmor

An excellent, affordable all-around harness, it is equipped with four molded gear loops and a full-strength haul loop, so it'll hold enough draws for a bolted endurance fest or enough pro for a gear-eating crack.
  • Key features:
    • Bullhorn shaped waistbelt
    • Adjustable leg-loops
    • 4 molded gear loops
    • Full strength haul loop.

This harness has worked well for me as a first harness. It is easy to put on and a grat price. I would recomend this harness to any new climbers or someone on a budget. The gear loops are great and the padded belt feels great.

I am using this as safety harness in case of fall while working on ladder or roof of house. Too many people take risks at what they think are safe heights. When I was practicing medicine, I saw many crippling injuries even from 10' falls Better safe than sorry. One slip and it could be all over. Check the news. It happens everyday.

so much for so little

I've probably done 20-30 climbs in this new harness and the condition of it doesn't have any signs of ware at all. It's very easy to put on, it is comfortable enough to climb all day in.

Comfy and inexpensive

A solid harness.

I love this harness and for the price there isn't anything better until you jump up to the [$]Arcteryx. In all climbing gear you need flexibility in your equipment, this harness has you covered. If you want all that and more comfort then the Arcteryx is the way to go.

If your purchasing your first harness im sure your wondering if expense means quality or if speed adjust is what you need. This harness though lacking speed adjust is fully equipped with anything a intense climber and begginer need alike. Youll forget your wearing it! OTher expensive harnesses such as the petzl adjama or the BD focus sa are honestly wastes of your money. This harness can compete with equal demand and costs much less. Id strongly recommend this to any climber of any ability.

DONT FIND A THING WRONG WITH IT

HAVE A WIDE GIRTH 37 INCH WAIST AND THICK LEGS. HARNESS ADJUSTS WELL AND IS COMFORTABLE. CAN EASILY BE WORN ON LONG ALPINE TRAVERSES WITHOUT BEING TAKEN OFF. CROTCH STAYS FAIRLY COMFORTABLE IN MOST SITUATIONS. AM HEAVIER THAN MOST CLIMBERS BUT FIND HARNESS BALANCES WELL RAPPELLING. DON'T KNOW ABOUT DURABILITY BECAUSE I CHANGE HARNESSES YEARLY. DON'T FIND ANY DRAWBACKS TO MENTION. DO LIKE 4 WIDE EQUIPMENT LOOPS FOR EXTRA GEAR AND NOT HAVING TO PICK GEAR OFF A SLING WITH ONE HAND, LIKE PRO AT MY THIGHS INSTEAD OF ON MY BACK
GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY AND WOULDNT DISCOURAGE IT.
