Great Alpine Mountaineering Crampons

These crampons are designed for alpine travel on glacier ice and frozen snow. They work very well for steep ice, but they are not designed for vertical ice climbing. If you use these for their intended purpose --- climbing mountains in a traditional alpine style --- they are great crampons.

I have used them with mountaineering double boots, and I have also strapped them onto my leather backpacking boots. Obviously the security on the mountaineering boots is good, but they were okay for walking over ice in the backpacking boots too. On my mountaineering boots, they were even pretty secure without the straps engaged. They never popped off the boot, even when others, with step-in crampons did pop off. I think this is because as the rand wears out, the step-ins become less secure. The strap-ons don't rely on the rand, so they stay secure.

Great Crampons

Just used these on a Mt Rainier climb. Wish all my gear was as good as these crampons. Light weight, good grip, easy to fit on the boots. Just awesome. Cannot beat them for the price.

A lot of bang for the buck

Really versatile crampon. I was able to fit them to two different sets of boots I already have. The crampons were easy to adjust and the standard center bar that came with them worked great for my size (mens size 10).

Zero problems with them coming loose on the mountain and the grip was excellent. Put them on for the climb up on early morning crust and throw them back in the pack for the ski down when the snow softens. Done.

GREAT WONT GO WITHOUT

THIS IS THE BEST PAIR YOU WILL FIND FOR THE PRICE. THE ONLY THING THAT I FOUND OUT IS THAT THE PACKAGE SAID THEY WOULD FIT A SIZE 12 BOOT U.S. AND REALLY A SIZE 11 IS PUSHING IT.

I use the BD contract straps with my Scarpa Charmoz GTX size 45. The center bar allows easy length adjustments to fit different sized boots. The bindings are very easy and quick to put on and hold a bomber grip on my boots. I have not had any problems with the crampons coming loose during a trip. The stainless steel is also lighter than the steel version.

This Crampon Rocks!

These crampons will literally fit any footwear. I put them on my Crocs just to try out and they worked great. Although I would recommend sturdier footwear, the option is there. Stainless is not lighter than chromoly as advertised, but it does score high for its no rust characteristics. I have used them several times and never once dried them off afterwards. The strap system is sturdy, they never once came loose. Back strap is cut low to prevent digging into your heel on long days. Overall this crampon is just plain sexy. And Made in U.S.A.!
