Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside of Asia, and is one of the Seven Summits.
The North Side is the 'Normal Route' to the top, and is considered a non-technical hike.
The second most frequented route is the Polish Glacier Traverse route. This approaches the mountain through the Vacas valley, ascends to the base of the Polish Glacier, then traverses across to the normal route for the final ascent to the summit.
The routes to the peak from the South and South-West ridges are more demanding and the South face climb is considered very difficult.
Aconcagua has a high number of deaths because it isn't considered a technical climb and therefore a large number of people climb the mountain that may not have climbing experience, and they underestimate the mountain and the weather.
